This is the classification used by the World Intellectual Property Organization, which was created to classify goods and services for the purpose of trade mark registration. Signatories of the Nice Agreement of 15 June 1957, including Poland, use the Nice classification to determine the scope of protection of registered trademarks. In essence, a trade mark registration office cannot grant protection to two identical trademarks within the same class. Two identical trademarks can usually be used in different classes (with the exception of a renowned trade mark).
